Conxfolio beside Kickresume
Their free plan is more generous than most, and its boundaries are published. Both sides are quoted from their own pricing page here, with the link, beside a tool that has no plan at all.
— their free tier is a real one.

Kickresume runs one of the more honest free tiers in this category, because it says what it is. Comparing against a good free tier is more useful than comparing against a bad one, so this page is mostly about where the two products draw their lines.
Their side is quoted from Kickresume's pricing page, read on 12 September 2026.
What their page lists as free
Their free plan sits at €0 and includes four basic résumé templates, four matching cover letter templates, one basic website template, 20,000 pre-written phrases and 1,500 or more résumé examples. Downloads are not metered: their page states that you can download your résumé as many times as you want and that they do not limit the number of downloads.
That last point is worth naming plainly, because it is the thing most free tiers get wrong. A free plan that lets you take the file is a free plan.
What their page lists as paid
The AI writing features, the ATS Resume Checker, Career Map, LinkedIn and PDF import, and the mobile app, with design and colours described as limited on the free plan against unlimited on paid. Their paid tiers are listed at €24 a month, €18 a month billed quarterly at €54, and €8 a month billed yearly at €96.
Two of those boundaries matter for anyone choosing between the two sides: the template count, and the checker.
The template count
Four templates free against 37 here, 21 of them marked ATS-safe, with none locked and nothing marked premium. Whether that matters depends entirely on whether one of their four is the one you want. If it is, the count is irrelevant; if it is not, it is the whole decision. Both galleries are free to look at, and looking is the only way to settle it. The gallery here shows whole pages rather than swatches.
The checker
Their page lists the ATS Resume Checker under the paid plans. Here the checker is free, needs no account and no email address, and prints its own working: the three weighted dimensions, the multiplication that produced the published score, every finding priced in points, and the checks that passed.
That last part is the design decision worth arguing for. A score with no arithmetic is a number you have to believe. Why the checker prints its own arithmetic makes the case, and the no-account walkthrough is the one-minute version.
The pre-written phrases, and the other approach
Their free plan includes 20,000 pre-written phrases, which is a real help to somebody staring at an empty page. It is also, by construction, language that did not come from your work.
The cover letter builder here takes the opposite approach: every evidence paragraph is a sentence out of your own material, carried with the line it came from, and where there is no real evidence it returns fewer paragraphs rather than padding. Neither approach is wrong. One helps you write; the other refuses to write anything you did not.

Where they fit
If you want help producing language, a mobile app, and a company with a roadmap and support behind it, their paid tier is a coherent offer and this is not competing for that. Their free tier is also a perfectly reasonable place to make a first résumé, particularly if one of the four templates suits you.
Where this fits
If you want every design available without a tier, a checker that shows its working for nothing, and a letter that will not claim anything your evidence does not show. And if you would rather no model were involved at all, which is a preference this product is built around rather than a feature it is missing.
Try both with the same document. Export what each gives you and run the two files through the checker, then compare the counts with the pages in front of you.
How to test the two in an evening
Use one document for both. Build or import the same résumé on each side, take whatever file each will give you for nothing, and put the two files side by side. Look for a mark on the page, check whether the design you wanted was available, and read the two exports on paper rather than on screen.
Then run both through the checker, which is free here and needs no account, and compare what each file extracted in words, lines and recognised headings. That is the only measurement in the whole comparison that is about your own document. For the other approach to the same question, the Enhancv comparison and the Novorésumé comparison quote two more published free tiers.

Conxfolio is a free set of four career tools: a résumé builder with 37 rendered layouts, an ATS résumé checker that prints its own arithmetic, a cover letter builder that traces every proof paragraph back to the line it came from, and a portfolio builder with 20 authored designs. There is no account to create, nothing is held back for a paid plan, and no language model is used anywhere in the product, so the readers, the score and the letter are deterministic code you can check.
