The source is either the résumé saved in this browser or a file you upload for this check alone. The check reads the text that survives extraction — which is the text an applicant tracking system gets — and measures sections, contact details, evidence, impact, clarity and formatting.

The report shows its own arithmetic. The score is not a number handed to you: each part carries its weight, a capped part says it is capped, and the sum is printed. Under it the fixes are ordered by the points they actually cost, and each one is a door into the exact place in the editor that fixes it. The checks that passed are listed too, so you can see what the score is made of rather than only what it is missing.

Reports are kept. Run the check again after a fix, then open an earlier report from the list to see what the change was worth.

This is not an employer's own applicant tracking system, and the score is not a prediction about an application. It measures the structure and evidence we can read in your résumé text.

Questions

Do I need the job description?

No. This check reads the résumé on its own. Matching against a particular posting is what the cover letter builder does with the posting you paste there.

Is it the same system a company uses?

No. Employers use their own software and we have no access to it. This check reads your résumé the way a parser does and reports what it can and cannot find.

Why did I lose points?

Every deduction is listed with the points it cost and the reason. The arithmetic that adds up to the score is printed on the report.

Can I check a résumé I did not build here?

Yes. Upload a PDF, DOCX or text file. It is used for that check and is not added to your saved work unless you ask.

Does a higher score mean I will get an interview?

No. A score says the document is readable and evidenced. A person still reads it.

What happens to the text I check?

Your work is kept in this browser. A file you import is read here first, and only the text it contains is sent to be sorted into fields — if this browser cannot read the file, the file itself is sent instead. The text of a résumé or a letter is sent to our server when you run the ATS check, ask for a draft, or export a PDF.
