A free HR manager cover letter, and the two duties the engine would not claim
One HR manager cover letter, printed exactly as the builder wrote it: sender block, date, recipient, subject, four paragraphs and a sign-off. The manager and the business are invented. The letter, the tracing and the gaps came out of the product.
— twenty-four per cent to eleven. that is a year of work in one line.

HR applications are judged by people who write job advertisements for a living, so a generic letter is noticed immediately.
Adaeze Wintersmith and Pellworth Group are invented, and so are the employers in the evidence; the letter below is the builder's own output from that evidence, unchanged.
The post, and the evidence the letter may use

The role
HR Manager · Pellworth Group
The posting

- Handled 38 employee relations cases in two years with 2 reaching a formal hearing.
- Reduced time to hire from 54 days to 31 across 4 sites.
- Trained 22 line managers to run their own performance reviews.

Re: HR Manager
Dear Imogen Starcross,
I'm applying for the HR Manager role at Pellworth Group. HR manager with ten years in manufacturing and logistics, working on the parts of the job that end up in a tribunal if they are done badly. You ask for Onboarding, and that is work I have already done: Built an onboarding programme that cut first-year leavers from 24% to 11% over three years.
I have worked as HR Manager at Vellacott Logistics, 2020 — present. I have also worked as HR Advisor at Bramfield Engineering, 2015 — 2020. I handled 38 employee relations cases in two years with 2 reaching a formal hearing. I also trained 22 line managers to run their own performance reviews.
I reduced time to hire from 54 days to 31 across 4 sites. The posting asks for Onboarding, Employee Relations and Performance Management — all of which I've worked with directly. The posting also asks for Payroll and Employee Engagement, which I have not used in these roles.
I would welcome the opportunity to discuss the role. Thank you for considering my application.
Sincerely,
Adaeze Wintersmith
How every letter on these pages is built from its evidence is set out in how our examples are made.
Opening lines for a HR manager cover letter
Three ways to start it:
“I'm applying for the HR Manager role at Pellworth Group, having led HR for a site of 600 people since 2020.”
“Your posting mentions a restructure, which I have run twice with full consultation.”
“I support managers through difficult cases, and absence at my site has fallen by a quarter.”
Swap in your own figure; the free cover letter builder drafts an opening from your evidence as well.
Mistakes that sink a HR manager cover letter
The first is describing cases in a way that could identify someone. The second is a list of HR policies with no outcome. The third is presenting the HR function as separate from the business.
Give one people result with a figure and one line on how you work with managers. The guide on what to include covers the rest.
What it refused to claim
Two gaps came back: payroll and employee engagement. The posting makes the monthly payroll handover and the annual engagement survey explicit responsibilities, nothing in Adaeze's evidence mentions either, so the letter claims neither and says so in one plain sentence. Ten years in HR almost guarantees she has done a payroll handover, and the engine still will not write the sentence. The rule behind that is the reason these letters can be sent without re-reading them for invented claims.
What an HR letter has to prove
Volume, outcome and independence. Volume is the headcount and the case count. Outcome is the retention figure, the time to hire, the share of cases that never became a hearing. Independence is the line about training twenty-two line managers to run their own reviews, because an HR manager who has made themselves unnecessary in one area is the one a business wants.
Second, spend the letter on outcomes rather than on policy names. The advertisement already knows what the policies are called. Evidence you forgot you had is a useful exercise for a job where most of the work is confidential.

Use this exampleSee the letter designsQuestions
- Is Adaeze Wintersmith a real person
- No. She is invented for this page, and so are Pellworth Group, Vellacott Logistics and Bramfield Engineering. No real HR function is described and no hire is claimed.
- Did the product really write this letter
- Yes. The evidence list on this page was loaded through this page's own door, the optional contact name, title and company city were typed into the fields Details & drafting asks for, and Write the letter was pressed. The reply is printed above unchanged, blocks and all. The engine reports its own provenance: six requirements read in the posting, seventeen evidence lines offered, seven sentences traced to a numbered line of them, ten written from named connective patterns, two gaps, no model.
- Why did the engine only recognise two requirements in the posting
- It reads six in it today: onboarding, payroll, recruitment, employee relations, performance management and employee engagement. Two was the count printed on this page on 12 September, and the letter above was measured on 14 September. Most of this advertisement is written in plain management English rather than in tool names, so the figures carry more of the letter than the term matches do.
- What does “Use this example” do
- It opens the cover letter builder in Details & drafting with the role, the company, the posting and the four evidence groups already loaded. Three optional fields stay empty for you to fill: the contact's name, their title and the company city. No letter and no application record exists until you press Create new draft.
- Can an HR letter name a tribunal case
- Name the volume, never the case. Thirty-eight employee relations cases with two formal hearings describes the work without identifying anyone, and it is the level a director can ask about at interview.
- Which design is this example in
- Formal, a conservative and balanced layout. It is paired here with the Imprint résumé layout the matching HR manager résumé example uses. That pairing is authored on these pages rather than built into the product, and the builder still opens whichever of the 12 letter designs you choose.
Conxfolio is a free set of four career tools: a résumé builder with 37 rendered layouts, an ATS résumé checker that prints its own arithmetic, a cover letter builder that traces every proof paragraph back to the line it came from, and a portfolio builder with 22 authored designs. There is no account to create, nothing is held back for a paid plan, and no language model is used anywhere in the product, so the readers, the score and the letter are deterministic code you can check.
