A graphic designer cover letter, selected from studio evidence rather than adjectives
One senior designer cover letter, printed exactly as the builder wrote it. The designer and the studio are invented. The selection and the gaps came out of the product.
— the portfolio proves the taste. the letter proves the process.

Design applications arrive with a portfolio link and two paragraphs of enthusiasm. This page shows what the second half can carry instead. Beatrix Nkemdirim is invented, Marchmont Paper is invented, and so are both studios in her history. The letter is real output: the evidence below was handed to the cover letter builder and the reply is printed word for word.
The studio post, and the evidence the letter may use
An invented person. Not a real document, and not yours.

The posting
Marchmont Paper is hiring a senior designer for its packaging and identity team. You will work on brand identity, typography and print production, using Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop, and art direct two photo shoots a season. Figma and motion design are used by the digital team.
What the letter may claim
- Built the brand identity system for a food range across 240 packaging lines and 3 languages.
- Reduced artwork turnaround from 9 days to 4 with a component library in Adobe InDesign.
- Rewrote the studio's print production checklist and cut reprint charges to zero over 2 years.
- Art directed 14 photo shoots and delivered 1 800 assets to the client's own library.
- Trained 4 junior designers on typography and press approval.

The letter the builder wrote
Direct voice, the one the door opens with. Three of the eight paragraphs are Beatrix's own sentences.
Dear Marchmont Paper Hiring Team,
I'm applying for the Senior Designer role at Marchmont Paper.
Reduced artwork turnaround from 9 days to 4 with a component library in Adobe InDesign.
Built the brand identity system for a food range across 240 packaging lines and 3 languages.
Rewrote the studio's print production checklist and cut reprint charges to zero over 2 years.
The posting asks for Adobe InDesign, InDesign, Brand Identity and Print Production — all of which I've worked with directly.
I'd welcome the chance to talk through any of this.

Where each paragraph came from
Lines 6, 5 and 7 of the evidence list. The InDesign line scored the maximum available, because it matched two of the posting's named tools and carries two figures in one sentence. The identity line and the print production line each matched one named requirement. Eleven requirements were recognised in the posting in all, and the three selected lines answered four of them.
The photo shoot line and the mentoring line stayed out. Both are true and both are strong, and neither answers a requirement this advertisement names, so they remain in the evidence list for the application that does ask. Evidence tracing shows the same provenance inside the product.
What it refused to claim
Two gaps: Figma and motion design. The posting says the digital team uses both, and nothing in Beatrix's evidence mentions either, so the letter is silent on both and the gaps are printed beside the draft. Adobe Illustrator is in her skills and the engine does not offer it as near enough to Figma. The gaps list is the interview works through what to do with two items like these.
No language model is involved. The ranking is deterministic code over her own lines, and the reply carries that fact in its own payload.
What a designer's letter has to prove
Not taste. The portfolio has already done that by the time anyone reads the letter. What the letter has to prove is that the work leaves the studio: turnaround, reprint charges, the number of packaging lines carried by one system, the languages it survived. Those are the sentences a studio manager reads, and they are the ones most designers leave out.
Second, name the tools by the names the posting uses. The engine matched two of them in one line here, and a human reader does the same thing faster. Linking a portfolio covers the other half of a design application.
The same evidence in the other two voices
Three voices ship with the builder, and changing one rewrites the connectors rather than the evidence. The ranking never sees the voice, so the same lines are selected in the same order in all three. Run on this page's own evidence, the warm voice opens "I'd like to be considered for the Senior Designer role at Marchmont Paper." and closes "I'd be glad to walk through any of this with you." The formal voice opens "I am writing to apply for the position of Senior Designer at Marchmont Paper." and closes "I would welcome the opportunity to discuss my application further." The middle connector changes with it: warm writes "You mention Adobe InDesign, InDesign, Brand Identity and Print Production; those have been the centre of my recent work." and formal writes "The role calls for Adobe InDesign, InDesign, Brand Identity and Print Production, each of which I have applied in practice." In the product, switching voice keeps the draft you already have as a version before it writes the new one, so nothing is lost by trying the other two.
The design, and what the door does
Editorial sets a serif-led dateline, which suits a studio application that will be read on paper. The paper changes and the words do not, across all 12 designs in the gallery.
The door below opens 02 · Details with the role, the studio, the posting and the four evidence groups loaded and removable. Nothing is composed until you press Write the letter. Put your own ranges, presses and turnarounds in, paste the real advertisement, and the same ranking runs on your lines. The matching graphic designer résumé example holds the document those lines come from.

- Is Beatrix Nkemdirim a real person
- No. She is invented for this page, and so are Marchmont Paper, Halbrook Studio and Vantry & Poole. No real designer's application is published here and nothing claims a hire.
- Did the product really write this letter
- Yes. The evidence list was posted to the same endpoint the Write the letter button posts to, and the reply is printed above unchanged, including the repetition in its fit sentence.
- Why does the fit sentence say InDesign twice
- The matcher holds the program under two names, Adobe InDesign and InDesign, and both matched the same line, so both were printed. It is the product's own output and it is shown here rather than tidied. It changes nothing about which paragraphs were selected.
- What does “Use this example” do
- It opens the cover letter builder on 02 · Details with the role, the studio, the posting and the four evidence groups already loaded. No letter and no application record exists until you press Write the letter.
- Does a designer still need a letter
- The portfolio answers what you make. The letter answers how you work with other people's deadlines, budgets and presses, which a portfolio cannot show. Both of the lines about turnaround and reprint charges are that second answer.
- Which design is this example in
- Editorial, a serif-led dateline. Any of the 12 designs carries the same words, and the gallery shows each one as a whole letter.
Conxfolio is a free set of four career tools: a résumé builder with 37 rendered layouts, an ATS résumé checker that prints its own arithmetic, a cover letter builder that traces every proof paragraph back to the line it came from, and a portfolio builder with 20 authored designs. There is no account to create, nothing is held back for a paid plan, and no language model is used anywhere in the product, so the readers, the score and the letter are deterministic code you can check.
