An architect cover letter that leads with retrofit because the posting did

One architect cover letter, printed exactly as the builder wrote it. The architect and the practice are invented. The selection came out of the product, and one word decided the order.

— three hundred and twenty homes. the drawings came after.

The Conxfolio cover letter builder on step 02 Details, opened by this page's own door, with the role Architect, the company Weatherhill Studio, the posting and the four evidence groups loaded
The Details step exactly as the door left it: Architect at Weatherhill Studio, the posting, and 17 evidence lines across profile, experience, achievements and skills, each one removable. No letter and no application record exists at this point.

Architectural applications are usually judged on images, and then the practice reads the letter to find out whether you can run a job. Anselm Ravensgate is invented, Weatherhill Studio is invented, and so are both of his employers. The letter is real output: the evidence below was handed to the cover letter builder and the reply is printed word for word.

The post, and the evidence the letter may use

An invented person. Not a real document, and not yours.

The role
Architect · Weatherhill Studio

The posting
Weatherhill Studio is hiring an architect for housing and retrofit projects. The role runs from concept design through planning applications to technical drawings and site work, in Revit and AutoCAD. Blueprint reading with contractors on site is a weekly part of the job.

What the letter may claim

  • Delivered 7 housing schemes from concept design to completion, 320 homes in total.
  • Secured planning applications on 11 projects with 2 refusals overturned on appeal.
  • Reduced technical drawing revisions by 40% after rebuilding the practice's Revit template.
  • Managed 3 retrofit projects that cut measured heating demand by a third.
  • Coordinated 14 consultants across a 60-unit scheme with no programme slip.

The letter the builder wrote

Direct voice, the one the door opens with. Three of the eight paragraphs are Anselm's own sentences.

Dear Weatherhill Studio Hiring Team,

I'm applying for the Architect role at Weatherhill Studio.

Managed 3 retrofit projects that cut measured heating demand by a third.

Coordinated 14 consultants across a 60-unit scheme with no programme slip.

Delivered 7 housing schemes from concept design to completion, 320 homes in total.

The posting asks for Retrofit — all of which I've worked with directly.

I'd welcome the chance to talk through any of this.

Anselm Ravensgate

Where each paragraph came from

Lines 8, 9 and 5 of the evidence list. One word decided the order. Retrofit is the only term in this advertisement the matcher holds as a skill, and it appears in exactly one of Anselm's sentences, so that sentence led the letter ahead of three hundred and twenty homes.

Whether that is the right order for a human reader is a fair argument, and it is one you can win in about four seconds: on the Details step you can remove a line before the letter is written, and in the editor afterwards every paragraph is editable. The ranking is a starting point rather than a verdict. Tailoring a letter to the posting covers the judgment involved.

What it refused to claim, and what it could not see

The gaps list came back empty, and on this posting that proves very little. The matcher does not hold Revit, AutoCAD, concept design, planning applications or blueprint reading as skills, which was measured against the product's own matcher while this page was written. It found one requirement, that requirement was evidenced, and so nothing was reported missing.

The guarantee runs the other way and it is unconditional: no sentence in the letter claims anything Anselm's own lines do not say. The honest limits of every tool is the piece to read before trusting any automated match. No language model is involved in any of it.

What an architect's letter has to prove

Consent, coordination and completion. Consent is the planning record, including the refusals that were overturned, because a practice is buying your relationship with a planning committee. Coordination is the consultant count on a real scheme. Completion is the number of homes that exist.

The revisions figure is the sleeper. A forty per cent drop in technical drawing revisions after rebuilding a template is a sentence an associate will read twice, because it is money. What a portfolio proves covers the other half of the application.

The same evidence in the other two voices

Three voices ship with the builder, and changing one rewrites the connectors rather than the evidence. The ranking never sees the voice, so the same lines are selected in the same order in all three. Run on this page's own evidence, the warm voice opens "I'd like to be considered for the Architect role at Weatherhill Studio." and closes "I'd be glad to walk through any of this with you." The formal voice opens "I am writing to apply for the position of Architect at Weatherhill Studio." and closes "I would welcome the opportunity to discuss my application further." The middle connector changes with it: warm writes "You mention Retrofit; those have been the centre of my recent work." and formal writes "The role calls for Retrofit, each of which I have applied in practice." In the product, switching voice keeps the draft you already have as a version before it writes the new one, so nothing is lost by trying the other two.

The design, and what the door does

The same Details step on a 390 pixel phone screen, showing the role, the company and the posting loaded from the example
The same door on a phone. The role, the company and the posting arrive filled in, and the evidence groups sit below them.

Editorial sets a serif-led dateline, which suits a practice that reads applications on paper. The paper changes and the words do not, across all 12 designs in the gallery.

The door below opens 02 · Details with the role, the practice, the posting and the four evidence groups loaded and removable. Nothing is composed until you press Write the letter. Put your own schemes and consents in, paste the real advertisement, and the same ranking runs on your lines. The matching architect résumé example holds the document those lines come from.

Questions

Is Anselm Ravensgate a real person
No. He is invented for this page, and so are Weatherhill Studio, Corrymere Practice and Vellenby Studio. No real building is described and no hire is claimed.
Did the product really write this letter
Yes. The evidence list was posted to the same endpoint the Write the letter button posts to, and the reply is printed above unchanged. The engine reported three selected paragraphs, one matched requirement and no gaps.
Why did the retrofit line beat the 320-home line
Because the posting says retrofit and that line says retrofit. It is the only word in the advertisement the matcher recognised as a skill, so the one sentence carrying it went first, and the larger schemes followed on their figures.
What does “Use this example” do
It opens the cover letter builder on 02 · Details with the role, the practice, the posting and the four evidence groups already loaded. No letter and no application record exists until you press Write the letter.
Does an architect need a letter as well as a portfolio
The portfolio shows the work. The letter shows the parts of practice that never photograph: planning outcomes, revisions, consultants held together, programme kept. All four are in the evidence above.
Which design is this example in
Editorial, a serif-led dateline. Any of the 12 designs carries the same words.

Conxfolio is a free set of four career tools: a résumé builder with 37 rendered layouts, an ATS résumé checker that prints its own arithmetic, a cover letter builder that traces every proof paragraph back to the line it came from, and a portfolio builder with 20 authored designs. There is no account to create, nothing is held back for a paid plan, and no language model is used anywhere in the product, so the readers, the score and the letter are deterministic code you can check.
