I'm applying for the Operations Graduate Scheme role at Kentmere Group. Engineering graduate with a placement year in manufacturing and a final-year project that reached the shop floor. You ask for Microsoft Excel, and that is work I have already done: Built the shift reporting pack in Microsoft Excel that 3 site managers still use.

I have worked as Placement Student at Wrayborne Manufacturing, 2024 — 2025. I have also worked as Warehouse Assistant at Tallowfield Distribution, 2022 — 2023. I delivered a placement project that cut changeover time on 2 lines by 14%. I also managed stock counts of 1 800 lines across a 12-week placement rotation.

I presented findings to 20 managers at the site's quarterly review. I also coordinated a student team of 5 on a final-year project delivered 2 weeks early. The posting asks for Microsoft Excel and Reporting — both of which I've worked with directly. The posting also asks for Project Management, which I have not used in these roles.

The gap that was not real

On 12 September the engine returned two gaps for this posting: project management, which is fair, and Scheme, which was not. Scheme is a programming language, it sat in the matcher's skills list as a bare word, and the phrase graduate scheme contains it. The matcher read a requirement the advertisement never made, found nothing in the evidence to answer it, and reported it as missing. The phrase pension scheme did the same thing, measured at 26% of the mechanical engineer postings in our own corpus.

This page printed it rather than quietly removing it, and the data was fixed on 13 September. A programming language whose name is an ordinary English word now counts only when a word from the trade stands near it, such as language, compiler, framework or repository, and a benefits word immediately before it settles the matter outright.
