A career change cover letter that argues from a timetable, not from enthusiasm

One career change cover letter, printed exactly as the builder wrote it. The teacher and the depot are invented. The selection and the two gaps came out of the product.

Career change letters usually open with an explanation and spend the first paragraph apologising. This one does not, because the engine selects sentences rather than writing them. Dermot Vaisey is invented, Ashlingdale Logistics is invented, and so are both schools. The letter is real output: the evidence below was handed to the cover letter builder and the reply is printed word for word.

The role, and the evidence the letter may use

Direct voice, the one the door opens with. Three of the eight paragraphs are Dermot's own sentences, and none of them contains the word teacher.

How the evidence was written to transfer

The trick on a career change page is not in the letter, it is in the evidence list. Every line was written in the language of the work rather than of the classroom: a timetable for 34 staff, a tracking system in Microsoft Excel, stakeholder management with 180 families, clashes down from 26 a term to 3. All of it is true of a head of department, and all of it is legible to a depot manager.

Lines 7, 6 and 5 were selected, the first matching two named requirements at once. Five requirements were recognised in the advertisement and the letter answered three of them by name. The examinations line stayed out, and it is the one that says he can coordinate external bodies to a deadline. Writing a career change letter covers the rest of the reframing.

What it refused to claim

Two gaps: inventory management and supply chain. The posting asks for stock control of parts and consumables, and nine years in a school answers neither. The engine did not stretch a stationery cupboard into a stores function. These are the gaps a career changer should expect, and the honest place to answer them is the field the product calls what only you know, which is used exactly as written and never invented. No language model is involved. Selection is deterministic code over his own lines, and the reply says so in its own payload.

What a career change letter has to prove

That the new job already exists inside the old one. Scheduling, data, stakeholders and deadlines are the same four things in a school and in a depot, and the numbers are the part that travels without translation. What does not work is a paragraph about being ready for a new challenge, which says nothing a reader can check.

Write the evidence list in the target trade's vocabulary before you write anything else. The letter is then a consequence rather than an argument.

The same evidence in the other two voices

Three voices ship with the builder, and changing one rewrites the connectors rather than the evidence. The ranking never sees the voice, so the same lines are selected in the same order in all three. Run on this page's own evidence, the warm voice opens "I'd like to be considered for the Operations Coordinator role at Ashlingdale Logistics." and closes "I'd be glad to walk through any of this with you." The formal voice opens "I am writing to apply for the position of Operations Coordinator at Ashlingdale Logistics." and closes "I would welcome the opportunity to discuss my application further." The middle connector changes with it: warm writes "You mention Reporting, Stakeholder Management and Microsoft Excel; those have been the centre of my recent work." and formal writes "The role calls for Reporting, Stakeholder Management and Microsoft Excel, each of which I have applied in practice." In the product, switching voice keeps the draft you already have as a version before it writes the new one, so nothing is lost by trying the other two.
