A nurse résumé example, and what the checker reads on it
One complete nurse résumé, written out in full. The person is invented. The reading and the score are the product's own.
— the ward, the caseload, the number. in that order.

Nursing applications are read twice, by software first and by a ward manager second, and the two want the same thing for different reasons. This example is written out in full so you can read the lines, then put through the tools on this site so you can see what each of those readers finds. The candidate is invented. Imogen Bracewell does not exist, none of the three employers exist, and every figure was chosen to demonstrate a shape.

What a nurse's résumé has to carry that others do not
Three things sit above everything else: the setting, the caseload and the registration. A ward manager reading this page wants to know where you have worked (acute medical, rehabilitation, a dementia unit), how much you carried while you were there, and that you are registered to practise. The example answers all three in the first eight lines, which is as far as most readers get before deciding whether to keep reading.
The setting is in the role line, beside the employer. The caseload is in the achievement lines, as a figure. The registration is a certification with a year on it. None of that is decoration: a nurse with nine years of experience and no visible registration reads as a nurse who forgot, and software that stores certifications as a section will store an empty one.
The lines that carry the weight
Ten achievement lines across three roles, every one of them beginning with a verb, and eight of them carrying a figure. Clinical work is unusually easy to measure and unusually often written without measurement. "Responsible for patient care" and "carried a caseload of 8 rehabilitation patients per shift, including 3 on complex discharge plans" describe the same shift, and only one of them tells a ward manager what to expect from you on a Tuesday.
The units in this example are beds, patients, shifts, staff and quarters, and the checker's evidence rule counts every one of them. That matters for a profession whose numbers are rarely money and rarely percentages. A 28-bed ward, 22 residents, 14 preceptees and 3 shifts a day are all readable evidence, and they are all things a nurse can say without exaggerating.
The healthcare assistant role is kept, and kept short. Early care work is where a lot of nurses learn the floor, and three lines is the right weight for it beside four on the current post. The slope from recent to old is the structure a reader expects.
What the reading found
The door on this page hands the document above to the résumé builder as plain text, through the same import an uploaded file goes through, and lets it read. The review screen shows every field beside where it came from before a word of it enters the editor, and where the rules are unsure they ask rather than deciding quietly. On this document the reading found four sections with both a recognisable heading and readable evidence, 161 words of experience evidence and ten distinct skills.
Nothing in that reading involves a language model. The readers are deterministic functions over the lines of one section, and every string one of them emits is checked in code to be a span of your own document. A field that fails that check is dropped and counted instead of kept, which is the behaviour you want from something reading a clinical history it cannot verify.
What the checker scored it
Ninety-seven out of 100, with one improvement remaining worth 8 points. The arithmetic is printed by the checker and explained in the article on how the score is made: 100 × 30% + 100 × 30% + 92 × 40% = 97. Parseability and completeness are full. Content lost its points in one place only.
That place is readable volume. The checker counted 248 readable words and awarded 12 of the 20 points for it, because the top band begins at 250. Three roles and ten evidence lines were enough for every other content rule: 10 action-led achievements scored 30 of 30, 6 measurable achievements scored 25 of 25, and 10 experience lines scored 25 of 25. A single extra line of real evidence would carry this page into the top band, which is worth knowing before anyone rewrites a résumé that is already working. The ATS checker prints what each remaining fix is worth in points, and it never claims to be the software a hospital group actually runs.
What to change for your own
Swap the setting first. A theatre nurse, a district nurse and a paediatric nurse have the same shape and completely different nouns, and the nouns are what a ward manager scans for. Then put your real figures in: bed numbers, caseloads, audit results, the training you delivered. Where a number genuinely does not exist, say what changed instead, as the discharge liaison line does.
Keep the registration line even if you are applying inside the trust that registered you. Keep the languages if you have them, because wards with a mixed population read that line with interest. The design gallery holds 37 layouts and the words do not change when the paper does, so the structure above is the part worth borrowing. A project manager example and a teacher example show the same shape carrying different evidence.

- Is Imogen Bracewell a real nurse
- No. She is invented for this page, and so are Fallowgate General Hospital, Ardenshaw Community Hospital and Marlpit Court Care Home. Every figure below was written to show a shape. We publish no real person's document.
- Why are the wards and caseloads in the lines
- Because they are the evidence a nurse actually has. A ward size, a caseload, a shift count and an error rate are all measurable, and the checker's evidence rule counts patients, beds, shifts and staff as units it can read.
- Does registration belong on a nurse's résumé
- Yes, and near the top of the reader's attention rather than at the bottom of a list of hobbies. The example carries it as a certification with a year, which is the form the reader stores it in.
- What did the checker score it
- 97 out of 100, with one improvement remaining worth 8 points: readable volume. The checker counted 248 readable words and the top band for that rule begins at 250. It is a readability and evidence measurement, and it is not an employer's applicant tracking system.
- Should a nurse use a two-column layout
- A single column survives extraction; a two-column layout is the most common reason a parser loses half a résumé. The example is rendered in Letterhead, one of the 21 designs marked ATS-safe out of 37.
- Can I copy this example
- Copy the structure, not the sentences. Three roles, verb-first lines, a number where a number honestly exists, registration with a year. The claims have to be yours or the document is worth nothing at an interview.
Conxfolio is a free set of four career tools: a résumé builder with 37 rendered layouts, an ATS résumé checker that prints its own arithmetic, a cover letter builder that traces every proof paragraph back to the line it came from, and a portfolio builder with 20 authored designs. There is no account to create, nothing is held back for a paid plan, and no language model is used anywhere in the product, so the readers, the score and the letter are deterministic code you can check.
