A free electrical engineer résumé example, from load study to commissioning

Building services engineering is judged on whether the installation worked, and most résumés in the field stop at the drawings. This example is written out in full so you can read a page that goes all the way to commissioning, then put through the tools here so you can see what software takes from it. Projects, energy, coordination

Nine commercial projects carried from concept to a witnessed handover. Lighting energy down 36% on an office refurbishment. Fourteen protection studies across five sites, twenty-two discrimination faults corrected, and 120 contractor queries answered. Those give a project manager the scale, the design judgement and the site behaviour of this engineer in three lines.

Contractor queries deserve their own mention. An engineer who has answered 120 of them on their own tender specifications has watched their drawings meet a contractor, and that experience is visible in the next set of drawings they produce.

Commissioning is the line that closes the loop

Twenty-two substation upgrades returned to service inside their agreed outage windows, and forty distribution boards commissioned across six industrial sites with every test result written into the handover documents. Design work that was energised, witnessed and left behind working is the strongest claim available in this discipline, and it is the one most often left out because it happened at two in the morning.

The spreadsheet line is the process one: the load calculation tool used on sixty projects a year rebuilt, and three errors it had carried since 2012 removed. Rework is what a consultancy loses money on, and removing its cause is a result a director understands immediately.

Skills for an electrical engineer résumé, grouped

From junior to senior electrical engineer

How it reads and scores

The import review read three dated roles with five achievement lines under each, one degree, ten skills, three languages, and the authorisation stored as the one certification with its year. The ATS checker scored it 99 out of 100, re-measured on 25 September 2026, with readable volume 2 points short and achievement quality 1 point short: 100 × 30% for parseability, 100 × 30% for completeness and 97 × 40% for content. The writing check scored it 95, which is 91 of the 96 points that applied here, and the five points it withheld went to one rule. The same check runs on every example; the method is described here.

What this example leaves off

No standards list, no software version numbers and no client names. Standards are assumed from the sector and the jurisdiction, and a project manager reads the protection studies and the commissioning record instead.

Project titles without figures are left off as well. A building name tells a reader where you were; a bed count, an energy figure and a query count tell them what you did while you were there.

What to change for your own

Change the sector. Industrial power, rail systems, data centres and renewable generation all use this shape with different standards. Then put in your own project counts, energy figures, studies, queries and commissioning records.

Keep the authorisation with its year. Keep the languages if you work across regions, because on a European site they are part of the job.
