An electrical engineer résumé example, from load study to commissioning

One complete electrical engineer résumé, written out in full. The person is invented. The reading and the score come from the product itself.

— design is half. commissioned and working is the whole.

The electrical engineer example résumé drawn as a complete page in the Typewriter design: name, summary, the roles with their bullet lines, education and a skills row
The example below, drawn by the builder's own renderer in the Typewriter design. The picture was taken by pressing this page's own Use this example door and photographing what the editor rendered.

Building services engineering is judged on whether the installation worked, and most résumés in the field stop at the drawings. This example is written out in full so you can read a page that goes all the way to commissioning, then put through the tools here so you can see what software takes from it. The candidate is invented. Bertrand Achterberg-Nomvete does not exist, neither employer exists, and every figure was chosen to demonstrate a shape.

Summary
Electrical engineer with nine years on building services and power distribution. Works on load studies, coordination and the commissioning nobody planned time for.

Experience

Senior Electrical Engineer · Ravensteen Building Services, Brussels · 2020 to present

  • Designed electrical services for 9 buildings totalling 140 000 square metres.
  • Cut installed load by 18% on a hospital scheme by re-specifying 3 plant rooms.
  • Completed 26 protection coordination studies and cleared 140 site queries.
  • Commissioned 4 substations and 2 standby generation systems with 0 return visits.

Electrical Engineer · Kortelaan Energy, Ghent · 2016 to 2020

Area, load, coordination

Nine buildings totalling 140 000 square metres. Installed load down 18% on a hospital scheme. Twenty-six protection coordination studies, and 140 site queries cleared. Those give a project manager the scale, the design judgement and the site behaviour of this engineer in three lines.

Site queries deserve their own mention. An engineer who has answered 140 of them has watched their drawings meet a contractor, and that experience is visible in the next set of drawings they produce.

Commissioning is the line that closes the loop

Four substations and two standby generation systems commissioned with no return visits. Design work that was energised, witnessed and left behind working is the strongest claim available in this discipline, and it is the one most often left out because it happened at two in the morning.

The template line is the process one: design rework down 33% after a checked calculation template was introduced. Rework is what a consultancy loses money on, and reducing it is a result a director understands immediately.

What the reading found

The door below hands the document to the résumé builder as plain text, through the same import an uploaded file goes through, and the review shows each field beside the line it came from. Here the completeness pass found four readable sections, 95 words of experience evidence and ten distinct skills, with the authorisation stored as a certification with its year.

The Conxfolio import review after the door opened, showing Bertrand Achterberg-Nomvete's example read into fields beside the rendered page, with the line saying it is an example
The real import review, opened by this page's own door. It names Bertrand Achterberg-Nomvete as invented before anything is saved, and it shows every field beside the line it came from.

Nothing in that reading involves a language model. Every string a reader emits is checked in code to be a span of the document, and where the rules are unsure they ask rather than filing a qualification under the wrong heading.

What the checker scored it

The same import review on a 390 pixel phone screen, with the example notice above the accept button
The same door on a phone. Nothing is withheld on the small screen: the notice, the reading and the accept button are all there.

Ninety-seven out of 100, with one improvement remaining worth 8 points. The arithmetic is 100 × 30% + 100 × 30% + 92 × 40% = 97, explained in the article on the score. Seven action-led lines, three of them measurable, seven lines of depth, and 173 readable words against a band opening at 250.

Three measurable lines is enough for the full 25 points, because the rule pays in full from two. The gap here is length alone, and the ATS checker prints the count so the difference between a short page and a thin one stays visible.

What this example leaves off

No standards list, no software version numbers and no client names. Standards are assumed from the sector and the jurisdiction, and a project manager reads the coordination studies and the commissioning record instead.

Project titles without figures are left off as well. A building name tells a reader where you were; an area, a load and a query count tell them what you did while you were there.

What to change for your own

Change the sector. Industrial power, rail systems, data centres and renewable generation all use this shape with different standards. Then put in your own areas, loads, studies, queries and commissioning records.

Keep the authorisation with its year. Keep the languages if you work across regions, because on a European site they are part of the job. The guide on certifications covers placement, the design gallery holds 37 layouts, and the mechanical engineer example, the architect example and the construction manager example sit beside this one.

Questions

Is Bertrand Achterberg-Nomvete a real engineer
No. He is invented for this page, and so are Ravensteen Building Services and Kortelaan Energy. The figures show a shape and describe nobody's work.
What separates a design engineer from a senior one
Commissioning. Four substations and two standby systems commissioned with no return visits is evidence that the designs worked when they were energised, and very few electrical résumés carry it.
Is a load reduction a safe claim
It is a design decision with a number attached. Installed load down 18% on a hospital scheme after three plant rooms were re-specified names the mechanism, which is what makes it defensible.
What did the checker score it
97 out of 100, with one improvement remaining worth 8 points. The document has 173 readable words, and the volume rule's top band opens at 250.
Do authorisations belong on the page
Yes, with a year. An authorised person qualification changes what you may do on a live system, and it is one of the first things a project manager checks.
Which design is this rendered in
Typewriter, one of the 21 ATS-safe layouts out of 37. It is plain, monospaced and prints legibly on a site printer.

Conxfolio is a free set of four career tools: a résumé builder with 37 rendered layouts, an ATS résumé checker that prints its own arithmetic, a cover letter builder that traces every proof paragraph back to the line it came from, and a portfolio builder with 20 authored designs. There is no account to create, nothing is held back for a paid plan, and no language model is used anywhere in the product, so the readers, the score and the letter are deterministic code you can check.
